The Bet on Specialized Expertise

Passionfroot, a Berlin-based marketplace connecting B2B creators with brands, closed a $15 million Series A round led by Insight Partners. The funding comes at a moment when software companies face a paradox: building products has never been easier, but standing out has never been harder.

The startup's thesis is straightforward. As generative AI tools flood every category with new features and launches, B2B buyers increasingly discover products through creator-driven channels rather than traditional marketing. LinkedIn posts, Substack newsletters, and YouTube podcasts have become the new discovery layer for software tools, and companies need access to creators who understand their markets deeply.

Passionfroot's founder and CEO, Jen Phan, is relocating from Berlin to New York to lead the company's US expansion. The startup is opening offices in both New York and São Paulo while growing beyond its current team of 15 employees. The round also included participation from existing backers Creandum, Supernode Global, and s16vc, bringing total capital raised to over $21 million.

The Commoditization Problem

The dynamics driving Passionfroot's growth reflect a broader shift in B2B software marketing. When product differentiation becomes difficult, brand recognition becomes paramount. Phan notes that marketing leaders consistently describe the same challenge: AI has made software development so accessible that every category now feels crowded and noisy.

This creates an opening for creators with genuine expertise. Unlike consumer influencers who often trade on lifestyle appeal, B2B creators bring technical credibility and audience trust built over years of sharing insights within specific domains. A developer advocate explaining a new API framework or a design leader walking through a prototyping tool carries weight that traditional advertising cannot replicate.

Insight Partners' managing director Rebecca Liu-Doyle frames the opportunity as a convergence of supply and demand dynamics. On the demand side, B2B brands are adopting more consumerized go-to-market strategies, particularly for AI technologies that require education and narrative building. On the supply side, subject-matter experts are increasingly creating quality content and seeking ways to monetize that expertise.

Growth Trajectory and Platform Features

According to Passionfroot, revenue grew 13-fold over the past year, with clients including ElevenLabs, Figma, Replit, Framer, and Gamma. The platform has paid out at least $10 million to creators over the last 18 months.

Since its previous funding round in 2024, the company introduced Zest, an AI agent designed to help brands create, execute, and monitor creator campaigns. Zest draws on what Passionfroot describes as a proprietary creator graph built from performance data across thousands of campaigns. The tool recommends creators both on and off the platform based on alignment with a brand's marketing strategy.

The platform also includes a wallet feature that allows companies to pay creators globally and track spending across campaigns. For brands operating across multiple markets, this infrastructure layer addresses a real friction point in managing distributed creator relationships.

Measuring What Matters in an AI-First World

Passionfroot is developing measurement capabilities tailored to the AI era. The company is working on tools that track how campaigns influence AI citations and how brands appear in AI-generated answers. As large language models become a primary interface for information retrieval, visibility in AI responses may become as important as search engine rankings once were.

For creators, the startup plans to build AI-powered features focused on monetization guidance and content ideation. These tools would help creators identify opportunities and optimize their output without requiring them to become marketing strategists themselves.

A Crowded but Evolving Landscape

Passionfroot's expansion comes as creator platforms broadly invest in better monetization infrastructure. Beehiiv recently launched a community and advertising marketplace, while Substack introduced subscriber-only perks within newsletters. Both moves reflect an industrywide recognition that creators need more than publishing tools; they need economic engines.

What distinguishes Passionfroot's approach is its focus on B2B rather than consumer creators. The dynamics differ significantly. B2B creators typically have smaller but more targeted audiences, longer sales cycles, and higher deal values. Campaigns are less about viral moments and more about sustained credibility and thought leadership.

The US market represents both opportunity and complexity for Passionfroot. American tech companies have deep pockets and sophisticated marketing teams, but they also have established relationships with agencies and creator networks. Breaking into those relationships will require demonstrating clear ROI and workflow advantages.

The Road Ahead

At DailyTechWire, we've tracked the maturation of creator economies across Asia and Europe, and the pattern is consistent: platforms that solve real infrastructure problems - payments, discovery, measurement - tend to outlast those chasing hype. Passionfroot's focus on B2B narrows its addressable market but also sharpens its value proposition.

The São Paulo office signals ambitions beyond North America and Europe. Latin America's tech ecosystem has grown rapidly, with Brazilian SaaS companies in particular seeking ways to reach global audiences. Local creator networks could provide a bridge.

The real test for Passionfroot will be whether its creator graph and AI tools deliver measurably better outcomes than brands can achieve through direct relationships or traditional agencies. In a market where everyone is talking about AI commoditization, the company needs to prove that its own AI features create genuine differentiation rather than adding to the noise.

For now, the funding provides runway to build out US operations and refine the platform. Whether specialized B2B creator marketplaces become essential infrastructure or remain a niche tool will depend on how quickly brands shift budget from traditional channels - and whether platforms like Passionfroot can demonstrate they deserve that shift.
