The move signals Apple's willingness to blur the line between its mobile and desktop processor families, particularly in devices where thermal headroom and battery life outweigh raw multi-core performance.
The updated Neo will ship with increased RAM - likely to support on-device AI workloads that have become table stakes in 2026 - and introduce new color options. For a product line that has historically prioritized portability over configurability, the A-series pivot makes strategic sense. Apple can leverage its volume iPhone chip production while keeping the Neo distinct from the Air and Pro tiers.
Fall Refresh: iMac and Entry MacBook Pro
Before the Neo arrives, Apple has two more conventional updates queued for this fall. The all-in-one iMac will receive the M5 chip, a predictable annual cadence that keeps the desktop competitive without requiring chassis changes. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, meanwhile, is expected to jump straight to the M6 chip, leapfrogging the M5 generation entirely.
